Greenways and Flood-Ready Streets

Proposed August 8, 2025

Build multi-use greenways in flood-prone corridors with bioswales, permeable paths, and daylighted streams where feasible. Street reconstructions will use 2050 rainfall intensity standards, raised intersections, and curb extensions that store stormwater. A climate risk atlas will show project benefits: reduced claims, fewer street closures, and heat relief in adjacent blocks.

Scope: Riverbend, USA
Region: Local
Riverbend Rising 2027 is a community-powered plan to strengthen housing stability, expand healthy food access, and prepare Riverbend for a changing climate. Led by city council candidate Marcus M.J. Johnson, the jurisdiction invites residents to co-create solutions that are as bold as they are practical.

M.J. grew up in the East End, where disinvestment was common but neighbors looked out for one another. As a neighborhood coalition leader, he spearheaded a campaign to turn vacant lots into affordable homes and later helped create the Riverbend Affordable Housing Trust. His hands-on experience with development, zoning reform, and nonprofit partnerships gives him a unique edge in making city policies work on the ground.

His campaign pillars are clear: keep housing affordable, ensure every neighborhood has fresh food within walking distance, and invest in infrastructure that can handle the climate of tomorrow. M.J. uses Riverbend Rising 2027 to share proposals, debate ideas with the community, and publish clear, measurable progress reports.
