Approach with Respect is a playbook for starting conversations with someone youre interested inwhether thats in a caf line, at a local meetup, during a class on campus, or even in a direct message online.
Its about creating a positive moment for both people, not just making an introduction.

We focus on three core principles:

Read the roomand the person. Notice body language, facial expressions, and whether the other person seems open to being approached. Respect personal space and pace; sometimes the best approach is no approach at all.

Ask for consent, however small. This could mean starting with a light, non-invasive question, or simply asking if its a good time to talk. The goal is to give the other person a comfortable option to say yesor nowithout pressure.

Accept no with grace. A polite decline isnt a personal attackits information. Thank them, smile, and move on. Respect in that moment leaves the door open for future, friendlier encounters.

These standards arent about scripts or pickup linestheyre about kindness, timing, and context so that everyone involved feels safe, comfortable, and respected. When done right, even a quick hello can become a moment of genuine connection.
